Energy security, clean power, and affordable bills have taken center stage in recent election campaigns, driven by the climate crisis and geopolitical tensions. EU policies like the Renewable Energy and Electricity Market Directives facilitate citizen-led energy transitions. Notably, Article 22 of the former mandates that Member States allow households to participate in Renewable Energy Communities (RECs) on an equal footing with market players.

While rarely recognized as such, the social economy has proven to be a key pioneer and player in this field, with cooperatives as the most common legal structure for renewable energy communities.

Building on the ongoing work of REVES, EURICSE, DIESIS, and Social Economy Europe, we would like to invite you to our upcoming Policy Lab. It is designed primarily for local, regional policymakers, but also social economy organizations, academics, and civil society.

Together, we would like to discuss two critical priorities:

  • Local Community Involvement: Strategies to engage residents, with a dedicated focus on youth and vulnerable groups.
  • Policy Integration: Practical ways to better align policies in the field of energy, entrepreneurship and social cohesion.

Attached you will find the detailed agenda and concept of the event.
